What do you love about EAP98?

I can’t say because I loved everything about EAP98! I mean just the classmates, assignments, and teacher Monica was really a blessing for me as I’ve said before. Even though the essays and reading was a bit of a struggle for me, I think I truly enjoyed myself.
It’s always exciting to learn new things and I’m always willing to learn new things. For a while now I’ve wanted to perfect speak English, so it would be a bit more comfortable to live here in the states. But, if I had to choose it would be writing the essays because I was able to express my thoughts and feelings and that was really good to me.
Again, I won't forget this class, and I will remember my classmates and Monica teacher. Good luck everybody!!~~~~
God bless you guys~~~^^

What I have learned from my classmates?

What I learned from my classmates?

There are many things I have learned, not just from TCC but also from many people like Monica teacher and classmates. As a person, I lack a lot of things already and English was just one of those things. But through this quarter, I think I’ve learned a lot about writing, reading, and just English in general. It was really fun, learning things I’ve never knew before and the teacher and classmates that were so nice to me. Specially, my friend Thu.^^

I think it’s a combination of just the environment’s atmosphere and the hard work that really helped me also. I’m so thankful that God has blessed me with such a nice college, people, and knowledge.

Gender Box

We had presentation for Gender Box from last Thursday. It was interesting issue for me, and some people knows about the men and women's different, but some people doesn’t know. It means people thinking without thoughtfully, but if we think more thouthtfully, it will be change a lot. We need to more know about the difference, and have to more make an effort to know.

Every people have their own society and culture thst is world community, media, TCC,neiborhood, family, or friend. So, many people belong to their community and have their roles. Men and women are totally different.
I want to compare both men and women’s good features of character. Men and women are a lot of differences, but men can help women’s need, and women can help men more mature and become successful easily. So, I can advice my husband’s decision for his problems, and my husband helps my hard work for vacuum, cook for big party, move furniture, etc. Men and women are different, but God made just like us.

What I need to learn ^_^

For me, I think I need to improve on a lot of things but don’t we all have something to improve on?^^ Well for me specifically, I need to work on my reading lab grade, grammar, word choice, and a little more on understanding what I’m reading.
Reading lab is a place where I read books, but reading seems to be harder for me because it takes time for me to fully digest what I had just read. Maybe.. because of vocabulary and phrases. The level of books....well I didn’t really have a chance to read, only the books for my children because they wanted me to read to them^^ hahaha! I've always never had the time to I guess, nor the resources.
For grammar, it has always been this big obstacle that had been with me for all the 10 years I’ve lived here. But I’ve noticed it’s been a problem to a lot of people who can't speak English, immigrants like me. And I guess it's just a matter of understanding how to speak the language I guess. Grammar, I’ve noticed, isn’t something you can achieve with just reading books or writing. It has to be learned to interaction with real people.
Um....my teacher, do you know who is, told me that my word choice was....a little problems^^ haha. So I guess I’m going to need to work on that too, although I don’t really know what to say about this since its similar to grammar.
In reading, as I’ve mentioned before I had all these problems in understanding just English, so I had an even more difficult time in understanding what I read because of grammar, vocabulary, and phrases. So, I think I need to either research and learn all these things or just study more before take the my regular study.

improving my esssay^^

Through this quarter, I have learned a lot about writing essays. At first, I only knew how to write a little bit. Of course I had a lot of struggle with grammar and vocabulary, which is very common among immigrants like me. But my grammar teacher ^^(same teacher as reading and writing) really came through for me and helped me improve a lot. For vocabulary, I had to do a lot of research online and in dictionaries on my own time. I guess all that effort with trying to finish all my essays and blogs (excluding the exception of going to Alaska) really paid off because despite me getting ok grades I had lot problems as to studying and working wise. For one, as I have mentioned before I have 3 kids that are a handful. And because they are between the ages of 4-12, they demand my attention quite often and for those of you who have kids and know what I’m talking about, you would know how hectic it can be. Also, I used a lot of transition words like, first, last, next, and also which are pretty basic transition words. I had a lot of good ideas and thesis statements from the start so starting essays wasn’t a problem for me. As I’ve said again and again, one of my most difficult struggles was grammar. But of course with a little help from the teacher I managed to write good essays! And I think my organization helped a lot too. I had my papers and notes in one folder so I could easily find them. For writing, using basic paragraph listings, I managed to smoothly write my essays

Difficulties of Reading English!

Since I come from my country, I have difficulties reading in English a lot. Not only that, but vocabulary, grammar, slang, and phrases seem to be just several of many challenges I have in reading English. Even though, I have lived in America for 10 years. I never really got a chance to learn English properly. Maybe because I had a lot of personal issues going on so that caused a problem. As time moved on, kids began using slang that I didn’t understand. Also, in English books, I tend to misunderstand a lot of terms or phrases as I’ve mentioned before. I guess for my level of English those sorts of things would be confusing. Moreover, even when I speak, write, or read, I seem to have a lot of trouble with grammar. My whole family does actually like we would say, "can I have this one' at the store, instead of "may I have the strawberry ice cream" or "uh yes" with that accent we all seem to have. Another problem for me is also my vocabulary. Since I have such a short vocabulary, I have to look up a lot of things and that takes a little time, but time that should have been spent reading. It doesn’t necessarily make me feel uncomfortable or stupid but it does get me frustrated at times because well time isn’t something that I have. Slang, I don’t like slang, is another issue, maybe not just for me but for a lot of other people around my age. My father told me, after he got back from Korea this year that he couldn't understand what the young people were saying. So, since I didn’t understand English very well in general, reading slang and trying to understand them made it even harder for me.

Speeed Reading!!

Speed reading is little bit different for me, depending on which language I read in. If I read in Korean then I can read at college level. But if I read in English it is very difficult for me to speed read because I’m still learning English and it is confusing still. Of course, since I’m getting a little old I can't think like I used to when I was in high school or middle school so that also effects speed reading for me. Also having 3 kids in the house, making a lot of noise and asking for my attention since I’m the mother, is also another obstacle for me. Even though I have all these troubles, I think if I practice, I can speed read really well. I mean practice makes perfect right? If I can sound out most words and look up information or anything I don’t understand and I think I’ll be set to go~^^

Mothers Day

I have a mother, and I am a mother.

Today is mother's day, so I visited my mother's house. I prepared foods from food shopping and gift for her, so cooked several cuisines and gave to her. My mom has five children, I'm the last one. When I was born, she was very old age, so I was very embarrassed to my mom because I adidn’t like her old face. Also, she doesn’t understand my new fashion or thought, so I always envy my friend’s young mom. However, I gave birth for my third son, and I am so~~~old age mother. I know..he will not likes my old age. It is so sad situation, so I’m really sorry about that before my thought.

My mom loves me and gives encourages, so I always commanded for anything. Now my mom has several diseases for heart disease, diabetes, and little problems for memory, so I worry about her health.
Also, I feel sorry because I’m so busy now. I have to go to school, and I having the training class for EDTS. Before starting my study, I visited my parent’s house two or three times a week. That’s why I really sorry for my mom because she always missed me and talk to me.

Today my mom was very happy when I was visit her's house. So, I thought I going to visit them more often and make them happy. I love you mom and thank you. You are great mom in the world.

I want to introduce about the Hanbok. I was designer for Hanbok just short time, and I was very fascinated for Hanbok. It was very beautiful color and pattern. So, I want to share informations about the Hanbok. Hanbok is the traditional costume worn by Koreans of all ages, particularly on traditional holidays and when attending social affairs with a traditional Korean theme.

The hanbok is characterized by its simple lines and the fact that it has no pockets. The women's hanbok comprises a wrap-around skirt and a bolero-like jacket. It is often called chimajeogori, chima being the Korean word for skirt and jeogori the word for jacket. The men's hanbok consists of a short jacket and pants, called baji, that are roomy and bound at the ankles. Both ensembles may be topped by a long coat of a similar cut called durumagi.

The traditional-style hanbok worn today are patterned after the ones worn during the Confucian-oriented Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Also, young women wore red chima and yellow jeogori prior to marriage and red chima and green jeogori after the wedding when bowing to their parents-in-law and when paying respect to them upon returning from the honeymoon. Today, however, women usually wear pink hanbok for engagement ceremonies, Western-style wedding dresses and the traditional red skirt and green jacket after the wedding when greeting their in-laws after the honeymoon. On other occasions, they wear hanbok of almost any color and fabric including embroidered, hand-painted, or gold-stamped silk. All of these tasks are mostly handmade, and I was made them.

In all cultures, traditional costume is an indicator of national character and values. Hanbok forms a highly effective expression of Korean identity and changes in hanbok design from the past to the present parallel the nation's historical development. To study the history of a national costume is to understand the culture and character of that nation. It is no surprise that the hanbok, like the traditional costumes of other nations, is increasingly seen as ceremonial or ornamental attire today.

An important event that changed my life

What is the important event that changed in my life? I want to talk about my immigration, that is, the first to me lived in another country for the first time in my life and it was very weird for me. Many people have moved from their home country and migrated. Some reasons why people have migrated is one, they had a new work place, have a new house, or married with someone, but immigration is totally different for me. Because I had to adapt to American’s new cultures, learn a new language, and meet new people.
First, this new culture changed my thought in my life because the culture is so different between the American’s culture and Korean culture. For example, Korean people introduce first with first with people because when people meet their first meeting, they think that it is polite to introduce themselves, especially for adults. But, Americans don’t have a personal question because it is a thing of the privacy infringement. Most Korean like involve with others because Korean think relation is very important for their relationship. I think relation is best important to me than other thing too.
Second, words, I was going to learn a new language. It changed my life because I have used Korean language for over thirty years, so I couldn’t change my own language easily. When I came here for the first time, I couldn’t understand their language at all because they talked too fast. Also, it was difficult for me to distinguish my known words. Another reason is American’s grammar is different than my country. For example, my country’s grammar verb says always at the end. But English verb is always followed next the subject. That’s why it confused me a lot of times, and I made many mistakes, and it is hard to speak and learn. So, I spent time to learn English, but I am still not perfect.
Third, meeting new people has changed my life because I have grown up with Korean people most of my life so being introduced to all these new things, especially American people has changed my way of looking at certain things. I think because of meeting new people, I was able to change my thought. For example, American is very nice and kind for first meet person that is so a deeply impress to me and change me. I learned many good things from American’s. Meet is always hard to me, so I have to have brave. It changed me newly.
At last, after the immigration changed me a lot. I learned American’s culture, speak English a little, and not much worry meet the American than before. Also, I learned how to make my credit, how to go to trip myself, how to buy cheaper stuff, and how to answer that after the said “Hi?” I enjoying my changed life now and I will keep going my adventure. Until I have free English to say that and feel comfortable. It is going to be fun to me.

What is a difficult to me in my life?

Many people have hard time or difficult for their lives. When they meet their difficulties, Some people overcome their difficulties, or some people easily give up their difficulties. Which is the better for you? I had meet many difficulties in my life. Some happen was helps me, and some happen was very wounded my mind. Both situation is o.k because it makes me what I am. I had many difficult things. That is relationships with people, caring for my children, or fight with my own. But I think best difficult thing is caring for my children because it is very important and difficult.

First of all, we meet a lot of people are living. Thus, at school, at work, at chruch, and under any circumstances. Good relationship is difficult between people to people, so many people think good relationship is way to success. If you have a lot of friends, you are already success in your life. Because deal with the people and good relationship is really important for you.

Next, my children's life is my life, and my life is my children's life because children's future depends on me. Also, I have to do always my best thing because I am the model of my children. For example, I have to do teach, feed, play, and support everything. Sometimes, I really worries about my habit and behaviors because they are learning from all my thought and my habit. However, I'm enjoying take care of my children. Yes! it is hard and difficult, but I love that.

Third, one of the most difficult thing is fight with my own because if you don't win with yourself, you can't win anybody.
